Not my favorite page in the comic so far, I admit… I tried a different, simpler shading style mid-page and also cloud cover changed the atmosphere in the last few panels, so the aesthetic of the whole thing together kind of looks like chaos. x’D Well, I guess some pages in a comic will be less attractive than others… hopefully the next one turns out better. :’P
^ I mean, that story concept, let’s face it, STANK. :’D It was basically Lord of the Rings with a Happy-Feet-style, Pop-music soundtrack and a dragon-girl as the main character. Definitely in my ‘B-Pile’ of story ideas, if not the ‘C-Pile’. ^^; BUT! JUST SINCE LAST SATURDAY (the 10th), after hearing that song by Omnia and internally/spiritually dancing around to it as Song-Serpent Sekoiya for a little while, THIS IDEA HAS BEEN TOTALLY TRANSFORMED and now could actually really be something good! All this in the space of a few days. Since hearing a song. Which was released just a few days ago. xD
It pretty much started with turning Piper into a Song Serpent (a creature which previously had no story or world associated with it at all). She was always musical and it wasn’t too big of a stretch. Obviously her instrumental affiliation as a Serpent is a flute (and I think her Minor nature-power is moss or something, not fully sure yet though). The hair, though… I dunno, I didn’t think Song Serpents could have hair, but Piper just looked so naked without hers, eep. x’P Perhaps it’s a wig! π (No seriously, it really could be. >u> )
That was only the first major transformation though. The story itself has been COMPLETELY reworked. Now no longer a LotR ripoff, only with the tiniest, subtlest nods at LotR you mightn’t even catch. I just can’t believe how out-of-nowhere this came, and how FAST out of nowhere it came!Β π π π
After a few loops of listening to that song, I began to feel Sekoiya the Dragon shifting into ‘Song Serpent’ mode. She was only ever a Song Serpent for so very briefly in her history, and it was interesting to feel this variant of her stirring to life. I could SEE her flowing dance movements to this music, I could FEEL her rocking out with the rhythm! 8D Big Sekoiya may be the mightiest version of Sekoiya to date, but Serpent ‘Koiya has such a freedom of movement that no other version of her has ever had. She’s basically a vaguely-anthropomorphic noodle-dragon, and pretty much all spine, lol. xD It was good fun being a Song Serpent again for a little while, and dancing like a mad, mad dergin inside my soul. π
(…Boy, I don’t think I draw nearly enough BLUE art. Nope-nope, not NEARLY. x’D )
Sepia is a 14-year-old girl who seems to appear as if from nowhere one morning in Kingdom Cybelline. She is unaccompanied and alarmed to find she cannot remember anything, outside of her name… not who she really is, why she came to Cybelline, or where from. But one thing she does know is that people seem to be giving her odd and even scornful looks… as if to say she does not belong here.
These are the three ways Sepia is currently written to appear in the first installment of D.E., and I think the middle one is the one that she spends the most time in.
